Welcome to our Georgian Manor, built in 1814 for Sir William Douglas and Dame Grace Johnstone and their famous great-grandson, John Sholto Douglas, the 8th Marquis of Queensberry, responsible for formulating the present day Queensberry boxing rules, believed to have been completed in this house. In 1920, it became the smart country hotel it is today. One of the finest, unspoilt traditional country house hotels in Scotland.
The Hotel has been going through a sympathetic refurbishment program, reinstating, preserving and enhancing many hotel's very special original features.
And although it has gone through a remarkable transition over the years, this delightful Scottish country house hotel still bears testimony to the golden age of touring and sporting activity in Scotland, and has carefully retained all that unmistakable character and personality, and many artefacts of a bygone era. The highest of standards of hospitality and comfort have been carefully and meticulously blended with glorious period pieces, wood panelling, wonderfully individual bedrooms and an ambience and atmosphere exuding grace, relaxation, timelessness and tranquillity. You can often hear the silence.
Here you will be made to feel very welcome, whether you are on business, conference or a restful short break with your family. So relax, unwind, and let us take care of your every need.
